Journal 1- Ashley Ambroise
- Personally, I feel that writing is a connection between a persons thoughts/ feelings expressed physically on a sheet of paper, computer, or even a wall. When I think about writing, the first thing that comes to mind is the classification of contexts which determines how a person will respond to the task given.
- Being able to distinguish how to execute different contexts is what establishes a successful writer. Being that most people are stronger at one way of writing and not as fulfilling in the other, mastering the balance of "how to write" towards different contexts is writing successfully to me. Myself, I am a person who is better at writing a creative, non-research paper vs. an actual research paper. Therefore, mastering this context of writing for me, will allow me to become a better writer.
- I see myself as a writer who struggles to thoroughly convey what I am thinking which makes me better at the story-telling type of writing. Since I do not have to explain what I think about another topic and it is my own, that is my strong suit. Although I also see myself as a writer in progress. Over the years, my writing has grown I am actively learning how to master the different contexts of writing.
- 5 key terms that define writing for me is: expressive, unconventional, aggressive, passive and influential
- In this day and age, remixing and assemblage is the norm and our way of living. However, with connections to plagiarism, this modern day lifestyle cannot be incorporated into writing. Since academic writing focuses more on how one person feels about a topic, incorporating this collective way of living is not effective through writing.
- Culture and writing goes hand in hand with the way a person conveys their writing. In this reading, I have learned that different cultures affect how people utilize writing, especially in this time period where remixing and assemblage is at large.
- Being that this article focuses on a single context of writing, it is successful but only in this form. However, being that there is some personal ideas about originality and assemblage throughout the text, this was conveyed successfully, allowing the reading to be successful
- My understanding of writing has changed since reading this article explains how cultures and a lifestyle of remixing can affect ones writing. I have never thought about writing in that way and with reading this article it clearly conveys this influence to be accurate.
- I would not change my key terms based on this article. One of the terms actually coincides with this article being that writing is expressed and influenced by culture. Two individuals writing will not be expressed the same since their cultures are not the same.
