Journal 2 - Rory Feinberg

My key terms were: Grammar, Spelling, Structure, Informative, Organized, language. I notice that many of my words do appear within the word cloud like Grammar, Language and informative. I surprised to see that the largest word by 11 words was writing. I didn't not realize how redundant my paper must be. I do see a connection and I know why, I find those key terms to be essential to the idea of writing, and without them it would be very difficult to compose a quality paper. I think the word cloud is important because it shows how often you use a word, therefore what words you should possibly steer away from while writing to avoid sounds repetitive. I think I may want to include the word "Message" to my key terms list because the main theme of someone's writing is important.

My theory of writing would most likely be a clear concise way of communicating a specific or broad message to a certain audience. There is writing at all ends of the spectrum from Children's books to Neuro Science textbooks, however they all follow the same rule, which is portraying a message to the desired audience. My theory of writing is a bit broad in the sense that most texts can communicate a message, however it is the effectiveness of the author's writing that allows the reader to either understand or not understand the material.

During today's assignment we discussed the importance of maps, their purpose, characteristics as well as other aspects maps contain. Following that I wrote my own writing theory which I believe to be pretty sound in the sense that it covers all the bases for most writing. In my theory I explain the wiring is most often audience specific, so although one person may like like one text, another person may not. Which is important to remember because in such diverse and cultural world we live in today, writing can be often misinterpreted so this helps prevent that from happening.
I chose to draw a "writing Doughnut" as my map for my writing theory that incorporates my key terms. I chose a doughnut, because I want to represent each key term as a necessary ingredient for the doughnut to be as tasty as possible. I created this analogy to show that each of my key terms are essential to creating the best writing. I enjoyed today's assignment because it made me think about the way I write and what defines successful writing from my perspective.  The maps activity tied well because it shows that there are many ways of conveying a message to many different audiences. I chose a map of my hometown, Miami Beach which contained many of the characteristics we discussed in class.
