journal 2 Marissa Latouche
Genre is defined as different categories of literary composition . Multiple components are involved to define the genre of a text. But,these categories are narrowed down mainly by tone and style. We decide genre by how perceive the situation and categorize the content. This definition is very similar to my previous definition of genre with a few minor changes. I never defined genre as a perception of the reader, but only as the perception of the author. One major idea that is very important to me as a reader is that genre is enacted by the writer and reader. Writing represents the world, events and feelings is something that I believe is extremely essential in order to have successful piece of writing. Texts get their meaning from other texts is also important to know in my opinion for writing.
My understanding of genre has slightly changed since reviewing the text. I have learned that genre isn’t an easy thing to decide. Genre is much more complex and much harder to define and narrow down. Text can be defined as multiple types of genre and can be up for interpretation.https://www.buzzfeed.com/hannahwilliams/6-halloween-treats-your-kids-will-love?utm_term=.dklgKX4vR#.ai0NvdBOz and this other article :https://www.buzzfeed.com/clairenolan/veggie-nuggets?utm_term=.ckWvXD8YL#.pqWaM1XGwThe two articles are in the same genre as food recipes. They are easy to follow for the demographic and include an outline with steps. They follow each rule by falling into one genre but are still very able to follow different genres. The idea of writing is to be direct yet flexible which these articles prove to be. Genre can be defined but after reading this article I’ve found that literary genre is up to interpretation by the world, events and feelings of the reader and the writer. Writing is to express the authors view point, but genre is determined by the reader and the feeling of the world.
