- Prior to reading these articles I believed that genre was confined to differentiating forms of movies and books. Yet I have now realized that genre is more of a "habit" which occurs among similar things which can be grouped into a genre. Genre is more of a general concept as opposed to a specific topic and it can be applied to most things in the world.
- I believe some good take aways are that genres are visual aspects which can be seen by other people which help group things into their genres. This allows people to share the same ideas of what a genre is. Also my previous ideas were correct in that genre can apply to things such as books, movies, etc. yet it can be expanded to almost anything in the world. Finally people need to share texts in order to gain knowledge and genres help with this spread of knowledge.
- My understanding of genre has changed in that I had never truly understood what genre encompassed until reading this article. Previously I believed it only applied to certain forms of writing yet I have grown to lean that it encompasses all forms of expression even going past the barrier of writing.
- I disagree with the statement that knowledge needs to be shared in order to spread. Knowledge can be discovered by an individual without the aid of someone else. The idea that the only way to acquire an understanding of something through the knowledge of others makes no sense, knowledge could spread without sharing the growth would just not be as rapid.
- CNN vs MSNBC both of these articles are of the same genre in that they are both news based articles written by reputable sources even though the content of the two articles are differing on the subject they are discussing.
- I have trouble understanding the meaning of the underlined section on the first page of the first passage where the author claims that conscious though is only used when events occur which are out of the ordinary. I don't understand why your brain would not be using conscious though during activities which you have seen before.
