Journal 2- Victoria Farrar

Genre is the framework of groups and situations that the text is built around. I used to understand genre as a specific context, such as fiction or non-fiction. One idea of genres is that it is what help us recognize and understand the concepts and messages in writing.  Genre is also a way to understand communication and how it may need to change to communicate a message. This could mean that in specific genres writers must understand how much detail they need to help communicate their message. Another idea is that genres are our actions that we leave behind. Genres play off other genres and they are constantly changed and used to fit different social situations. Genre to me usually meant a specific group of text, however after reading the different concepts of what genre is my definition of it has changed. Genre is much more than a specific book label. It is the meaning around the concepts a writer must understand and use to explain their message. It is flexible in the types of texts that writers use it in and fit to all styles of writing. I do not disagree with any concepts in the text. They have opened my eyes up to a new way of looking at the what genre really is. http://www.horsesciencenews.com/horseback-riding/jumping/riders-dont-influence-how-horses-jump.php

The two articles I chose are from a scientific article on horses and behavior. These articles relate to the multimodal concept because they have pictures relating to the text to help the reader understand the meaning.
