In Class Activity ( Word Tree ) - Christopher Harb

STEP TWO :Between my word cloud and my key terms I see a lot of connections based on communication. I see words that have meaning rooted in communicating through language and text. Something I did not expect to see in my word cloud was the word including “myself.” However, the largest word that I was not surprised to see was writing. What was surprising was what different types of words seemed to be more common throughout the text than others. I think it's important to make connections between your literature and your own beliefs. Because if you cannot support your own creations with your personal views then their is some dishonesty being played. Looking at my word cloud does not make me rethink my key terms because personally i was able to make a few connections but these few terms do not define all pieces of literature in its entirety. The most intriguing piece of information i can draw from this exercise would be that no matter how many key terms you think every piece of literature needs to be successful there will always be more or less than you intended to be there. The reason that this occurs is because you cannot always keep your morals and your ideas exactly the same because one or the other will always stray.

STEP THREE: Writing has grown as time has progressed. Along the way it has created new and important meanings. In my own personal opinion writing is here on earth to create a historical timestamp and to keep innovation moving forward. The best way to describe this would be when Rome was destroyed along with all of its knowledge of architecture, language, and historical importance. The world suffered greatly from the fall of Rome. Some say we lost hundreds of years of innovations in irrigation, road working, and scripture. All of this centers around creating a historical piece of writing so that others can use it in the future to progress off of what was already started. The reason writing is so important in this context is because at that point in time no one group just suffered the whole world suffered a major loss in knowledge that people in the past had already knew.

STEP FOUR: In our discussion we found that although we had completely different point of views for our theory of writing we could find similarities amongst them. While my theory of writing was from a preservation standpoint Jenna included expressive and personal importance. We both agreed that writing contains the key to most of the world's problems because it usually has already been solved by someone else. Whether this means from a technological standpoint of emotional standpoint most of the time someone has gone through these issues, solved them, and then written them down. However, where we differ in opinions is how writing is used as an emotional outlet. While writing my theory of writing it did not occur to me to think that writing is used as an emotional outlet for some people. I was just purely looking at writing as a tool that is used to move us forward in time. People have to be aware that writing should not only be used in a historical way but should be used to have fun. Writing has opened up a realm of fictional stories and films that have resulted in a huge genre that lets people play out their own fantasies in life.

STEP FIVE: Compared to my own theory of writing i have seen that i just specifically focused on how writing should be used to further mankind. I think having a theory of writing is important to everyone personally. Because everyone has a different opinion on what they believe writing should be used for and why it should be important. As a writer I can say that I like to see writing used to document places in time. Because i know many years down the road someone else will pick up the text i wrote long after i'm gone and be able to analyze what i wrote. As a writer i can connect with my theory of writing because all i want to do is leave a timestamp for later generations to come and look back at. At this moment i would characterize my writer as an investigative journalist. I love to just learn and find out what no one has figured out or found before. Finding untouched or buried stories that were never supposed to be found is what I am interested in and i want the world to be able to see it for the rest of time. I always read articles of stories people have written but I am getting the point in my life where the tables turn and I want to write stories for others to read.
