Journal 4 - Juan Rodriguez

The key words in this article are discourse and acquisition.  Gee says discourse is a way of communication and thinking that a group of individuals share. Acquisition is a way of learning and thinking that does not require being taught. He also used the word linguist to explain what a discourse community is, he said that linguist have their own ways of communication that only linguist with that vocabulary will understand so they are part of a discourse community. The discourse community that I plan on talking about in project two is economics, they have their own vocabulary that only other economists will understand so this makes them a discourse community. One can become part of this discourse community by studying economics and gaining experience so that they could further communicate in this community. Writing can play a part in this community because economists need to be able to convey the information they find with other people, not only economists, so that everyone could understand what their discourse community is figuring out. This discourse community interests me because the way the markets and the tendencies of how household and communities make decisions on their money and the things they need to buy interests me.
